Job Description
A solar project engineer manages the technical aspects of a solar energy project, from initial site assessment and system design to installation, commissioning, and ongoing performance monitoring.
Responsibilities include conducting technical feasibility studies, performing engineering calculations and modeling using software like PVSyst, preparing detailed drawings and documentation, coordinating with contractors and stakeholders, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations, and overseeing the budget and schedule. The role requires strong technical skills, project management abilities, and a deep understanding of solar technologies, equipment, and permitting processes.
Job Responsibilities
Site Assessment & Feasibility: Conducting site evaluations and technical analyses to determine the suitability of locations for solar PV installation.
System Design & Modeling: Using software to model solar energy systems, design array layouts, and perform complex calculations to optimize performance.
Technical Documentation: Creating and checking detailed technical drawings, electrical diagrams, and preparing documentation for permits and construction.
Project Management: Developing detailed project plans, managing budgets and schedules, and overseeing the entire project lifecycle from concept to completion.
Procurement & Vendor Management: Providing input on the selection of optimal solar equipment and managing relationships with equipment manufacturers and suppliers.
Installation & Commissioning Support: Overseeing contractors during installation, ensuring quality through testing, and providing technical support during commissioning.
Compliance & Risk Management: Ensuring all projects adhere to current safety, building, and environmental regulations, and managing project risks.
Stakeholder & Team Coordination: Collaborating with project managers, contractors, engineers, utilities, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution.
Job Requirements
Education: A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
Technical Expertise: Proficiency in solar technologies, array design, inverter technology, and relevant software such as PVsyst, Helioscope, and AutoCAD.
Project Management: Strong skills in planning, scheduling, budgeting, and managing project timelines and resources.
Problem-Solving: Ability to conduct technical and economic feasibility studies and solve engineering challenges.
Communication: Excellent written and oral communication skills for coordinating with diverse teams and stakeholders.
